Tips for Choosing Men’s Semi-Rimless Eyeglasses

Semi-rimless eyeglasses feature frames that go around the upper part of the lenses, thus leaving the bottom half of the lens rimless. As with rimless frames, manufacturers strongly suggest robust lens materials like trivex or polycarbonate so that they can withstand the amount of drilling required to secure the frames in place. However, some semi-rimless designs may not require drilling, as the lenses can be held in place using a filament that is similar to a fishing line. This filament goes into the groove of the lens, making it invisible. Semi-rimless glasses are excellent alternatives to completely rimless glasses as they make for a sturdier piece. They offer the best of both worlds, as they are more stable and virtually unnoticeable as the framed rim usually follows the eyebrows, while the naked edge rests on the face almost invisible. The guidelines you should follow when shopping for rimless eyeglasses are essentially the same as you would when buying rimmed or rimless glasses:

  • Choose quality frame materials that last. Plastics and metals are common choices, although some manufacturers and designers also use other unconventional materials like bone, wood, and horn. Just the same, more people prefer precious and strong metals for their performance and sleek appearance. Titanium and stainless steel frames are very popular because of their lightweight nature.
  • When it comes to sizing, it is important to find the optimal frame size for the size of your shape. Remember that an ill-fitting frame can affect your comfort as well as cause much strain on your eyes, temples, and nose-bridge. The size and shape of your face should also determine the shape of the frame you should choose.
